The History
Village of the Moon Forest
Basilippo means “village of the moon forest”. It is believed that this city was located as far back as the Tartesic epoch (Age of Bronze, centuries X – VI b.c.) between Carmona and El Viso del Alcor, in the province of Seville.
The olive tree, symbol today of a thousand-year old culture (the Andalusian one), had for Tartessos the meaning of a sacred tree. Several millennia later, the agricultural wisdom of the first olive farmers continues live in the elaboration of Basilippo, mix of our ancestral culture and the more modern systems of production and marketing.
The culture of the olive tree and the oil is present at Basilippo from its name and philosophy to the logo that characterizes it, an phanathenaic amphora’s silhouette, used to reward winners of Phanathenaic Games ( predecessors of Olympic Games ) that were celebrated in Greece in order to honor the Goddess Atenea, full of oil from sacred olive trees that symbolizing the valuable gift that could be offered.
